Accessibility Statement
Our commitment
KC Pergolas is committed to making this website usable for as many people as possible, regardless of disability, device, or assistive technology. We treat accessibility as part of building the site well, not an afterthought.
The standard we follow
We design and develop against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, the most widely referenced accessibility standard in the United States and the one tied to common interpretations of the Americans with Disabilities Act for commercial websites.
Keyboard navigation
The entire site is operable with a keyboard alone. No mouse required.
- Skip to main content: press Tab once on any page and a prominent "Skip to main content" link slides into view at the top. Press Enter to jump past the navigation straight to the page's main content.
- Visible focus indicators: every link, button, and interactive control shows a high-contrast gold ring when focused with Tab, sized to stand out on photos and dark backgrounds.
- Mobile menu: the hamburger menu is a real
buttonelement. Open and close it with Enter or Space. Screen readers announce its open or closed state. - Tab order follows reading order: the focus path moves through the page in the order content appears, not in random jumps.
Screen readers and assistive technology
- Every page uses semantic HTML and landmark regions (
nav, main, footer) so screen readers can jump between sections. - Headings follow a clear hierarchy: one
h1per page, withh2andh3nested underneath in order. - Every photograph has descriptive alt text. Purely decorative images (duplicate logos, ornamental elements) are marked
aria-hiddenso they don't add noise. - The mobile menu uses
aria-expandedandaria-controlsso screen readers announce what it controls and whether it's open. - Icon-only buttons have
aria-labelattributes so their purpose is announced.
Color and contrast
Body text, headings, button labels, and interactive UI all meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text). We re-verify whenever a brand color changes. If anything still reads hard for you, please let us know.
Animations and motion
If you have "Reduce motion" turned on in your operating system, the site automatically collapses animations and transitions to instant. The hero photo zoom, the day/night portal, button hover effects, and the 3D viewer's auto-rotate all become static. Nothing on the site relies on motion to convey meaning.
3D viewers and heavy interactive content
The interactive 3D pergola and pavilion viewers use WebGL and pointer or touch input. We've included plain-text descriptions of the construction details next to every viewer so the same information is available without using the 3D model. The viewers also load progressively, so if your device or assistive technology has trouble with the WebGL element, the rest of the page stays fully usable.
Known limitations
A few things we are actively working on:
- The 3D viewers cannot be navigated with a keyboard alone. The construction details next to each viewer cover the same information.
- Some Cloudinary-hosted photographs may only have short alt text. We're upgrading these to fuller captions over time.
- Third-party tools we link to (Calendly, Google Maps) have their own accessibility behavior outside our control. If one of them blocks you from completing something, contact us directly and we'll get you what you need another way.
If something gets in your way
If you run into an accessibility barrier, or you need information from the site delivered another way (large print, plain-text email, phone conversation, in-person), let us know. We will respond within two business days and find a way to get you what you need. We treat accessibility complaints as bug reports, not edge cases.
