Pergolas

A pergola is an open-top outdoor structure that defines a patio, adds real shade where you sit, and turns the back of the yard into the most lived-in part of the house. The roof can stay open for airflow, slatted for solid afternoon cover, or stacked in our three-layer system for the densest shade you can get short of a real roof. They drop straight over an existing patio or sit anywhere else in the yard, and they're the cleanest way to hang string lights, fans, and outdoor speakers without seeing a wire. Cedar and Douglas fir hold up well to Kansas City weather and look better every year. Most people who add one tell us they wish they'd done it years ago.

Pergola questions.

How much does a pergola cost in Kansas City?

Cedar and Douglas fir pergolas start around $5,000. Most builds land between $5,000 and $15,000. Premium builds with decorative joinery, full lighting, and the three-layer slat system can reach $35,000.

What wood do you build pergolas from?

Cedar and Douglas fir. Both stand up to Kansas City weather, take stain beautifully, and age far better than the thin off-the-shelf lumber a lot of builders use. We don't build aluminum or vinyl pergolas.

How long does a pergola take to build?

Most pergolas go up in one to three days on site once the materials are ready. From signing to finished build is typically four to seven weeks.

Do the posts get set in concrete?

Yes. We set posts on proper concrete footings so the structure stays true for decades instead of shifting and leaning a few seasons in.

Do I need HOA or city approval?

Often, especially in the Johnson County suburbs. We've been through these architectural reviews many times and can provide the drawings and material specs that get approved fast.
